The Fine Art of Sighing

At the beginning of this creative essay, the author explains the mechanism of sighing and how one feels in order to produce this kind of gust of air within the lungs. It is not an exaggeration of what really happens when someone sighs; it in fact is in contrast with the title of this piece. When you think of art and mechanical, they sound and are very different in many ways. In fine arts, it is possible to know the technicality of the type of art that you are doing, such as writing, language, and music to name a few to get a better understanding of it, but it is indeed an art form of some kind. Sighing is displayed in the piece as a form of art but yet, the terms used to describe how one acts when one is about to sigh is very mechanical indeed.

 The theme within the creative essay here is based on how one feels, whether it’s a feeling of relief or a feeling of great emotion, when they sigh. It is basically saying how the emotion will influence the way that one will sigh. When the essay talks about the mother wanting to be outside of the house and wanting to do other things, the sigh explained that she gives is more rough and hard. That type of sigh is indicated implicitly that she would rather be in a better place where she can focus on doing stuff for herself instead of being a housewife and being used however anyone wants to the choose to use her. She makes it sounds like the things that the mother does go unappreciated and that even though she does chores and cleans for everyone else in the house, it goes unnoticed. Even on the other page when discussing how the dad sighs; her scratching his back is more relieving for him but you can tell secretly that even though at the moment it is talking about the dad, she really feels like the story should still be about her. But the dad in the essay has sighs that are more humble, quiet and softer. He likes the little things that makes him give off the “Ah, this is the life for me” sighs. His sighs are more appreciative, even to the mother (compared to the belief of the mother that it’s not).

The message of sighing is releasing the tension within your body based on an event of a sort has made u feel a certain way. The message is also describing what types of emotions coincide with how the sighs are made. The mother looks outside the window, and her sighing is sadder than an excited sigh. She wishes that she was outside rather than her being inside as a housewife, and her feelings for this shows, indicating that it happens quite often.  She is lost within a world in which she has no control of and this is how she expresses herself non-verbally. The father on the other hand, as stated in the creative essay, is not sighing out of relief, but of him being grateful and appreciating the small things. In a way he is humble and nostalgic at the same time. In the details used by the author, the act of sighing is not just an art but an action. The essay can also be about other ways to express how things make other people feel.  Sighs, types of music, love, and anger are all other ways to express how u feel and let it out.
